We have all made New Year's Resolutions....lose weight, exercise every day, diet better, read more, etc. They always seem to start out great...for the first day, week, month, aaaaaand then life happens. We get busy, we get bored and complacent and fall back into old, UNHEALTHY patterns and routines.
Why is it that we can't seem to make them last?
In order to stick to any plan, goal or program you need to ensure 3 things exist:
1. IT MUST BE FUN- If you are not enjoying what you are doing, it will likely never last. Diet programs, exercise routines, and daily habits have to be enjoyable. When developing new routines, it will not always be easy. Many times you will want to quit or not start at all, and this is why it is crucial to make what you're doing enjoyable. Working with a professional that understands this concept can help you keep things fresh and new to ensure your goals are exciting.
2. IT MUST BE REALISTIC AND ATTAINABLE- Goals need to be achievable. The biggest limiting beliefs in goal setting are that once you achieve them, your work is done, and that if you can't or don't reach them you FAIL. Goals are designed to help you reach something bigger. When you set short term goals and reach them, GREAT! You are one step closer to your long term goals. If along the way, you realize that your long term goals are unrealistic or that you want to go a different direction then be sure to modify your goals to fit this. People rarely overshoot when it comes to goal setting. They only really BEGIN to understand the GREATNESS that is within them once they start to accomplish the goals they have set. 3. YOU MUST HAVE ACCOUNTABILITY & MENTORSHIP- Friends, family, mentors, coaches- ALL great options to help you reach your goals. At Cultivate Physical Therapy & Motion Lab we are dedicated to helping you reach your goals, too. We want to hear about your goals and resolutions for the New Year and help you achieve them. The MOST SUCCESSFUL people in the world all have MENTORS. We are human and as humans we fall victim to limiting beliefs quite often. Having a mentor and accountability partner can help you to work through struggles, limiting beliefs and the hard times. I have personally ridden the up and down rollercoaster that is (trying to do it all on my own without a coach), and I know that this method is not sustainable and makes things much harder. At Cultivate we want to help you find a mentor that will be a good fit with your beliefs and goals and walk alongside you to achieve everything you set out to accomplish over the course of 2019.

Injury prevention and pain management is also a big part of reaching goals and having a successful year, and at Cultivate Physical Therapy we fully understand that. Aches, pains, and injuries will happen over the next 12 months and the difference in reaching goals or giving up is how those things are managed. The best way is prevention.
